The housefly has sticky pads on each of its six hairy feet, enabling it to walk on ceilings and windows. Houseflies complete their life cycle of egg, maggot, pupa and adult in about a week during warm weather.
Scroupulous hygiene and prompt disposal of refuse will discourage flies. Windows can be fitted with fly screens. Food stuffs should be kept covered at all times. Dustbins should be sited away from windows and doors and have tight fitting lids.
